Thorndon Park inspection
As part of this work, scent-trained detector dogs will move through the park as a precautionary measure to support early detection of Giant Pine Scale.
Thorndon Park has been identified as a priority site due to its large pine trees and the significant community value of the reserve. This surveillance is precautionary, and there have been no reports of Giant Pine Scale at the park.
The work will involve two trained handlers and two detector dogs moving through the park’s pine tree areas. The dogs will remain on leash at all times, handlers will wear high-visibility clothing, and all waste will be collected.
A friendly reminder that dogs are not permitted in Thorndon Park at any time. However, Council has granted permission for the dogs to be in Thorndon Park for this purpose.
