Registers
We maintain and publish a variety of Registers in accordance with the Local Government Act 1999 (the Act). These Registers, detailed below, promote openness, accountability and transparency in our operations.
Council and Committee Members must disclose if they have a material, actual or perceived conflict of interest in any matter being discussed at a meeting. This is recorded in the minutes of the meeting and is maintained on a Register in accordance with the Act.
Delegations enable Elected Members to focus on policy and strategy and allows the day-to-day operations of the Council to be carried out by its staff.
Council formally delegates many functions and powers to the Chief Executive Officer, who may then sub-delegate these to appropriate staff.
The Register of Allowances and Benefits lists Elected Members' allowances, reimbursements and any other benefits received.
Elected Members are required to complete mandatory training requirements during their term of office. A Register of this training and development is maintained in accordance with the Act.
A Register of gifts and benefits received by Elected Members and staff is maintained in accordance with the Act.
If an Elected Member or staff member of Council receives a gift or benefit of an amount greater than $50 (as determined by the Minister), that gift or benefit must be entered onto the Register.
It is mandatory for Elected Members and members of our Audit and Risk Advisory Committee to disclose sources of income and any affiliations in a Register of Interests. The Registers help to identify any potential conflicts of interest.
The Registers must not include:
- a person's residential address
- any other address suppressed from the Register under the Act.
