Disability Traineeships
Council is committed to an ongoing 18-month traineeship for a local person with a disability, as part of its Employment Diversity Program.
The first traineeship started in 2019 with Mr Bart Di Caterina undertaking a Certificate 3 in Business Administration. Since then, Council has facilitated a further three traineeships. Our second trainee, Mr Joshua Boswell, completed a Certificate 2 in Horticulture based at the Depot, and our third trainee, Ms Cherie Brine, undertook a Certificate 3 in Business Administration based at the Campbelltown Library. Our current trainee, Ms Lauren Caire, is also undertaking a Certificate 3 in Business Administration, and is based within our Finance Team.
There are multiple organisations involved to help facilitate the traineeships, including Council as the host organisation, Maxima as the employer, a disability support service (to provide ongoing support to the trainee) and a training support organisation.
What is instrumental in the success of the traineeship program is having Council staff who have awareness in the areas of disability and inclusion and a supporting organisation who are able to assist the trainee and set them up for success.
Business Case Studies
Inclusive workplaces embrace diversity, with a deep-rooted respect for all people and their rights regardless of their gender, age, heritage and cultural background, skills, abilities, experience, work styles and ideas. Importantly, inclusive workplaces employ and support both people with and without disability to work together as equals.
The case studies below share some of the stories of businesses within our community who are embracing disability inclusiveness in the workplace.
