Regular waste collection services may be impacted by:
What goes in each bin
Not sure which bin to put it in? Placing items in the correct bin will help prevent items going to landfill unnecessarily.
- What goes in the green bin: food organics and garden organics (FOGO) recycling
- What goes in the yellow bin: co-mingled recycling
- What goes in the blue bin: Waste to landfill
Still unsure? Visit the Which Bin? website to learn more about what materials go in each of your kerbside bins.
Your bins
Place your bins kerbside by 6 am on collection day.
Where practical, keep a minimum distance of:
- 50 centimetres between bins
- 1 metre between parked cars, street trees, stobie poles and letterboxes.

Your bin should:
- Face towards the road with the wheels closest to your house.
- Not be too heavy. Bins weighing more than 60 kg cannot be lifted by the truck.
- Not be overfilled. The lid must close completely. If needed, break up materials or save them for the next collection.
Whilst East Waste endeavour to pick up every bin, every time, sometimes there are reasons why your bin may not have been collected.
Missed bins can be reported online, directly to Council's contractor East Waste. Once reported, East Waste will generally collect missed bins on the following day.
To arrange for repair of a broken bin, fill in the online request form or call East Waste on 08 8347 5111. East Waste will contact you to arrange a day and time for you to leave the bin out on the kerb for repair.
Parts that can be repaired include the lid, lid pin(s), lid handle, wheel(s), body of the bin or handle on the bin body.
If a bin is damaged beyond repair (by someone other than East Waste), missing or stolen, it will need to be replaced at the resident's expense.
- New bin: contact Mastec on 08 8259 9700 to purchase a new bin.
- Second-hand bin: you can purchase a second-hand bin providing it meets the Council requirements.
If a bin is damaged by East Waste during collection, please contact East Waste 08 8347 5111 or east@eastwaste.com. If the bin has fallen into the collection vehicle, East Waste will organise a new bin to be delivered.
Rental properties
If you are a tenant, please contact your Landlord or the Property Manager to arrange for a new bin to be delivered. It will be up to them to purchase a new bin.
Housing SA properties
If your bin is lost or stolen and you are living in a Housing SA Property, Housing SA will replace bins if you have a Police report number. Contact your local Police Station to report the theft, then contact Housing SA on 131 299 and ask for the maintenance department.
Council provides one set of new bins to newly built or subdivided properties. To request new bins, complete the online request form or contact Council on 08 8366 9222.
If you move into a property and one of the three bins is missing, you can request an individual replacement bin.
Residents can apply to have a second or subsequent kerbside bin where exceptional circumstances can be demonstrated. Applications must be made annually and charges may apply.
Before considering an additional bin, think about minimising your waste production by avoiding, reducing and re-using. If you apply, someone from Council may contact you to discuss your waste management.
Council By-Law 3 requires that bins are not left on a footpath or road for more than 48 hours after a resident's designated collection day.
Bins left out past 48 hours can be reported online or on 08 8366 9222.
