‘Art to Heart’ Community Arts Project

‘Art to Heart’ Creative Wellness workshops welcomed women from various cultural backgrounds, interested in art and looking for social connection in the Campbelltown council area.

The project involved delivery of an 8-week series of 2-hour sessions in the Rostrevor Baptist Church community shed, which provided a nurturing space for participants to explore themes including creativity, personal strengths, joy, belonging/home, self-confidence and more.

A range of creative modalities such as painting, drawing, collage, and clay were used, however the focus was not on a finished artwork but rather the meaning generated through the process of engaging in the activities and interacting with others.

The main key areas of growth identified by participants were "improved mental health" and "increased confidence with art", followed by "meeting new people" and "feeling part of a group". One member of the group from a different cultural background commented that with the ‘Art to Heart’ theme, “there was a sense of journeying creatively together with the group but at the same time undergoing an individual time of self-exploration and discovery".

This project was funded through a Campbelltown City Council, Community Arts Project Grant.
