Samsara Beauty & Healing

From the inside out

Samsara Beauty & Healing, a local salon in Rostrevor, has flourished under the dedicated ownership of Josie Kerr for over seven years. What sets Samsara apart is its unique blend of traditional beauty treatments alongside a diverse range of healing modalities, all curated to nurture the external and internal wellbeing of its clientele.

Under Josie's guidance, Samsara offers a comprehensive selection of beauty treatments, including waxing, massage, facials, and skincare. However, what truly distinguishes Samsara is its commitment to holistic healing. Josie is certified in Usui Reiki and Reconnective Healing and serves as a Master Compassion Key practitioner, ensuring that clients have access to various transformative healing experiences.

Driven by her passion for helping others, Josie has expanded Samsara's offerings over the years, culminating in the recent launch of an online store to serve clients better and enhance convenience. Her vision for the future involves leveraging digital platforms to provide accessible healing services to a wider audience, particularly through group sessions.

‘Life is so short, and things can hold us back, but options are available to deal with them. We might as well open that door to healing as it benefits not only us but also the broader community when it’s reflected in our daily interactions, how we treat people, and the wellbeing we’re equipped to offer others,’ Josie said.

Inner and outer beauty

Josie believes in the interconnectedness of inner and outer beauty, emphasising that self-care radiates positively to those around us. She views beauty treatments not only as a means of enhancing physical appearance but also as a gateway to deeper emotional healing. This belief is reflected in Samsara's client-centric approach, where beauty appointments often segue into more profound healing sessions.

A typical day for Josie is filled with back-to-back appointments, primarily comprising loyal local clientele. Each session offers a unique opportunity for Josie to connect with her clients, fostering a sense of trust and satisfaction. She enjoys the days because there’s always something new to learn about the clients, and the experience is unique each time. By the end of the day, she leaves work feeling gratified and like she has done something tangible to help people.

A sanctuary in a village

Samsara's success is also attributed to its integration within the local community. Josie's familiarity with the area and its residents has cultivated a sense of safety and belonging reminiscent of a close-knit village. This communal attitude extends to other businesses in the vicinity, fostering a supportive network akin to an extended family.

‘I’m so grateful for the clients that I have, every single client that comes in just fits so well and complements the business. I think that is also a reflection of the ethos of the local area and that village-like feel that permeates Campbelltown City Council's expanse. This is further evidenced by the way the Council are so diligent towards precinct revival, community events and facilities. Plus, their obvious support of local businesses,’ Josie said.

For Josie, Samsara represents more than just a business; it's a manifestation of her desire to create a space of healing and empowerment. Her unwavering commitment to her ethos, coupled with a deep appreciation for her clients, underscores her journey of growth and fulfilment.

Through Samsara, Josie has not only established a thriving business but also crafted a sanctuary for holistic wellbeing. By seamlessly integrating beauty and healing, she has fostered a space where individuals can embark on a transformative journey towards self-discovery and empowerment.

‘My favourite thing about being in my business is that I can create whatever I wish and only have to answer to myself and it’s under my control. Which gives me the freedom to expand my business and services accordingly and reach the people that I want to reach.’

Josie’s tips for being in business:

  1. Invest in marketing and ways of getting noticed, especially early on in business.
  2. Be authentic – people can see straight through you when you are not. Be interested in your clients and customers as people and what their needs are; don’t just view them as dollar signs.
  3. Be professional, but be a human being and real at the same time.
