Child Friendly Campbelltown

Child Friendly Campbelltown Vision

Children are visible, thriving and have a strong sense of wellbeing.

Imagine Campbelltown where children are visible in public spaces - streets, shops, creeks, nature, trails and parks.  Children feel valued and welcome - their opinions and ideas are heard.  They feel connected and have a sense of belonging. Opportunities to learn, play and explore are available. Children’s wellbeing is a priority for community and council.

This is the essence of Child Friendly Campbelltown.

What is your role in the Campbelltown Village?

Past initiatives provide a strong foundation for Child Friendly Campbelltown

Child wellbeing experts Fraser Mustard & Carla Rinaldi were part of Adelaide’s Thinker in Residence. Whole of community approaches & involving children as active citizens were key recommendations embraced by Council.

Since 2010, the views of children, families & organisations that work with children have informed Council’s:

  • Strategic Plans
  • Library, ARC & Playground designs
  • 4th Creek trail improvements
  • Bike Plan
  • School holiday programs
  • Breast feeding information

Council was recognised by UNICEF Australia as a Child Friendly City in 2015. Demonstrating commitment in children’s Active Participation, Belonging, Outdoor Play, Safety, Education and Health achieved this.

Child Friendly Campbelltown is about children being valued as citizens. Watch our Children’s Voice video here to see what they like about bike riding and what stops them riding more. It informed Council’s Bicycle Plan.

A partnership between Campbelltown City Council and the whole Campbelltown community.
