Street Play

Campbelltown Street Play is part of an international movement to reclaim quiet residential streets as places for neighbours to connect and play. It all started with Playing Out on one street in Bristol in England in 2009 and is now supported by 22 countries worldwide.

Residents work with Council to close their street for two hours to let neighbours meet and for children and families to play on their street safely and freely. Through traffic is diverted but car access is allowed at walking speed.

The process is easy and involves four steps:

  1. Get support and permission from Council's Community Development Officer (Children & Families) on 8366 9336 or gfairbrother@campbelltown.sa.gov.au.
  2. Talk to your neighbours and set a date.
  3. Tell everyone! Hand out the Street Play Letterbox Leaflet to your neighbours.
  4. Play and Meet on your Street.
