NAIDOC Awards

NAIDOC Week is held in the first full week of July each year.  It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society.

Each year Council seeks nominations for young Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people between the ages of 12 and 25 years living, working or studying in the Campbelltown Council area who have made a significant contribution to the Community through education, sport, music, art, community service or culture.

The NAIDOC Youth Award winner is recommended to Council by the Reconciliation Advisory Committee. The winner is awarded $500 to contribute towards furthering their contributions.

Nominations for the 2024 Campbelltown Youth NAIDOC Award will open in May 2024.

2023 NAIDOC Youth Achievement Award Winner - Cooper Plummer

2023 NAIDOC Youth Award winner Cooper Plummer receiving his award.

Cooper, a local Charles Campbell Secondary School student, received the 2023 NAIDOC Youth Award in recognition of his significant achievements in the national junior drag racing circuit, where he is currently number one in the SA division and 5th in the national circuit.

Cooper contributes to promotion of the sport by racing, attending car shows, displaying car class, age group and specifications for Community interest.

Since he began racing in April 2019, Cooper has been a role model for younger new participants in the sport to take up something new, this gives cooper a sense of purpose and motivation to connect with others, it’s a meaningful experience and one he is very grateful for.

Cooper brings strong commitment and inner drive to his chosen sport, junior drag racing. Capabilities that transfer through to all areas of his life and development. He is a proud first nations young man, age 14 representing his family and culture on and off the national junior drag racing circuit. The success and dedication to his sport was shared with the Charles Campbell College community during NAIDOC Week last year, when Cooper enthusiastically showcased his dragster to the school.
