Achievements to Date

Achievements to date in Reconciliation include:

  • The Aboriginal flag proudly flies outside Council Offices.
  • The Reconciliation Statement is included in all Citizenship Ceremonies.
  • Council has delivered two Reconciliation Action Plans: Reflect and Innovate.
  • A relationship has been built with Community groups to support the implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan and support their groups journey.
  • New Staff and Volunteers are given the Reconciliation Statement during the induction process.
  • Elected Members and RAC Members are invited to the Anniversary of the National Apology breakfast and Reconciliation breakfast.
  • The new Staff Leave Procedure includes wording that supports Staff to attend culturally significant national events such as NAIDOC.
  • Support for existing Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander employees with an externally based mentor.
  • Procurement of services from Aboriginal businesses.
  • Local Kaurna history on Council's website.
  • A Kaurna history box is available for schools to borrow.
  • Co-named open spaces with Aboriginal names.
  • Workplace and Community training opportunities.
  • Aboriginal public art at Lovell Reserve, Athelstone and Tower Hotel, Magill.
