Achievements to Date
Achievements to date in Reconciliation include:
- The Aboriginal flag proudly flies outside Council Offices.
- The Reconciliation Statement is included in all Citizenship Ceremonies.
- Council has delivered two Reconciliation Action Plans: Reflect and Innovate.
- A relationship has been built with Community groups to support the implementation of the Reconciliation Action Plan and support their groups journey.
- New Staff and Volunteers are given the Reconciliation Statement during the induction process.
- Elected Members and RAC Members are invited to the Anniversary of the National Apology breakfast and Reconciliation breakfast.
- The new Staff Leave Procedure includes wording that supports Staff to attend culturally significant national events such as NAIDOC.
- Support for existing Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander employees with an externally based mentor.
- Procurement of services from Aboriginal businesses.
- Local Kaurna history on Council's website.
- A Kaurna history box is available for schools to borrow.
- Co-named open spaces with Aboriginal names.
- Workplace and Community training opportunities.
- Aboriginal public art at Lovell Reserve, Athelstone and Tower Hotel, Magill.
