Information and Services

Some people with a disability require specialised support to maintain their independence and wellbeing at home and in the community.  This support can be provided through disability agencies and from universally-available support services available to everyone, such as GP (General Practitioner) services.

One of the challenges for people is when they first have to understand the disability and what supports are available.  The disability service system can be overwhelming and confusing at a time when someone might be feeling emotionally vulnerable.

Council has compiled a useful guide to disability support services in the area for children and young people. The guide includes:

  • Mental Health Services
  • Support Coordinators and Plan Managers
  • Support Workers, Respite, In-Home and Community Support
  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech Pathology
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Podiatry Services
  • Allied Health Services
  • Mobility Support Services
  • Deaf/Hearing impaired and Blind/Vision Impaired Support Services
  • Autism Support and Information Services
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Support Services
  • Meal and Eating Support Services
  • Disability Inclusive Sport and Recreation
  • Playgroups and Playgrounds
  • Disability Inclusive Entertainment and Leisure Facilities
  • Advocacy Services
  • Other Support Services
