Weekly Green FOGO Bin Trial
Approximately 1,250 households and businesses in part of Campbelltown suburb are part of a Weekly Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) trial collection service.
- FOGO (green lid) bin collected weekly
- Landfill (blue lid) bin collected fortnightly
- Recycling (yellow lid) bin collected fortnightly.
The trial that began in May 2024, has been largely successful, supporting the community to send less waste to landfill.
The area is part of the Campbelltown suburb, bordered by: Atkell Avenue, Clairville Road, Newton Road, Gorge Road and Lower North-East Road (just one side of the street).

Frequently Asked Questions
The trial is continuing in the original area as this kerbside collection service has shown to suit most of our Community, reduce the waste sent to landfill, have positive benefits for the environment and reduce costs in waste.
By continuing the weekly FOGO collection service in the initial trial area we can improve our understanding of collection logistics and the cost for this service. This will inform the direction of the kerbside waste service Council-wide and Council will be required to make further decisions about this.
The Weekly FOGO collection will continue with fortnightly landfill collection as the trial service. This means your current bins and collection frequency at your property will remain the same.
While the weekly FOGO collection suits most, if this bin collection is causing concern, or you would like to chat through your options, please give one of our friendly customer service staff a call on 8366 9222.
Properties that have an upsized landfill bin as part of the trial will retain this bin with no additional charge. If you no longer require this upsized bin, as your household needs have changed, please get in touch with us.
All residents are entitled to an annual roll of compostable liners. The roll of 150 liners can be collected from the Council office at 172 Montacute Road, Rostrevor.
Did you know? Many of the local supermarkets and green-grocers have switched their produce bags or shopping bags to be compostable! Use these in your kitchen caddy and put them in the green bin! Always look for the compostable logo.
Not sure if your bags are compostable? Check out which bag is best to see if your bag is compostable, degradable or biodegradable.
We'd love for you to give the weekly FOGO collection a go and we're here to support you. We recognise that not all households are the same, that's why we have provided flexibility. If you would like to chat through your options, please give one of our friendly customer service staff a call on 8366 9222.
Nappies and hygiene products
Nappies and hygiene products should always go in the blue landfill bin.
If you are worried about the smell of nappies or other hygiene products, try these tips:
- Dispose of as much solid waste from the nappy as possible into the toilet before placing the nappy in the landfill bin.
- Wrap dirty nappies tightly in a nappy bag.
- Store your landfill bin in the shade.
- Make sure your lid closes properly.
- Place a small amount of odour control agent in the bottom of your bin to repel flies and odours. Use natural products such as vinegar, eucalyptus and mint oils.
- Try cloth nappies and or reusable hygiene items, even for part of the time.
If you’re a household with children in nappies or have residents that have a medical condition requiring more landfill bin space, we can upsize your landfill bin. Please contact Council to discuss this option.
Pet waste
Much of your pet's waste can go in the green FOGO bin:
- Pet poo can be disposed of in the green FOGO bin loose, wrapped in a certified compostable bag or newspaper.
- Only kitty litter that is made from 100% paper, sawdust, or is certified as compostable can go in the green FOGO bin. Clay, silica and crystal kitty litter needs to go in the blue landfill bin, as these cannot be composted.
- Pet fur, hair and nail clippings can be disposed of in the green FOGO bin.
We'd love for you to give the Weekly FOGO collection a go and we're here to support you.
We recognise that not all households are the same, that's why we have provided choice and flexibility. If after a while, you find that you have concerns, please contact us, so that we can work out a solution for you.
One option is that we can upsize your landfill bin from 140L to 240L at no cost to you. This has shown to assist households with lots of family members, nappies and/or medical issues. By upsizing, they have remained on the weekly collection of the green FOGO bin, allowing food waste, garden waste and other compostable materials to be collected weekly.
If you really don't think this service is for you right now, you can choose to ‘opt-out’ to have a weekly landfill, fortnightly green organic and fortnightly recycling collection. However, you can choose to join back again later!
(Please note, the My Local Services App waste calendar will not work for you if you opt out).
If your property does not have a green FOGO bin or you live in a block of units that has never had a green FOGO bin, we are keen to work with you to make sure the 3 bin kerbside system is adequate for you.
If you have only a small space for bins or do not have a big garden, you can order a small 140L bin rather than a standard 240L bin.
Please contact us to discuss your options.
Check the A-Z of recycling to see if there is any more waste that can go in the yellow recycling or green FOGO bins.
Check our tricky waste page to find alternative disposal options for items that cannot be recycled through your yellow bin, but can still be recycled.
Dispose of bulky waste by booking a free annual hard waste collection.
Soft plastics take up a particularly large space in our bins, to reduce this, squish down into a bag until you can tie the bag closed. This also helps prevent them flying around when at the landfill site.
