Business signage
Industrial precinct business signage
Industrial precinct business signage has been installed at the Newton and Magill industrial precincts to:
- create a coordinated and consistent signage scheme throughout the city
- encourage elimination of proliferation of 'sandwich panel' boards, blue and white signpost blades, and other unsightly and/or unauthorised signs
- ensure that signage is properly maintained thus projecting a positive image
- assist in fulfilling business needs in directing customers to their premises.
We invite individual businesses to list their business name on the signage via a leasing agreement. The business name will be printed in uniform colour and font, with corporate colours and logos not being permitted. To register your interest in an agreement, please complete the request form.
Business name street signage
A blade sign displaying your business name (attached to street name pole - blue with white text) may be considered as a way to increase business visibility and to help direct Community members to local businesses.
To register your interest in a business name street sign, please complete the request form. Please refer to our current Fees and Charges Schedule for any fees involved.
Moveable business signage
To protect public safety and the amenity of the Council area, conditions exist about the placement of moveable signs within our City.
As a general rule, businesses can display up to 2 moveable signs (such as A-frame signs) on the footpath area of a road in order to promote their business. Signage must be placed safely so that footpaths and road sight lines are not impeded. Rules also exist regarding the shape, size and construction of the signage.
Refer to Council's By-Law 2: Moveable Signs for full details of rules and requirements relating to moveable signs. Provided that your moveable signage meets the requirements outlined in the by-law, Council approval is not required to display your signage.
Home-based business signage
If you conduct a business from your home, signage is permitted under certain conditions (as detailed in Planning, Development and Infrastructure (General) Regulations 2017).
The use of signs should ensure the character and amenity of the locality is maintained, and must:
- be no more than a maximum area 0.2 square metres
- be no more than a maximum of two signs
- not move, flash, reflect light or be internally illuminated
- only display the name, nature of the business, contact details and the trading hours.
