Hard Waste and Mattress Collection

Each financial year (1 July to 30 June), residents are entitled to both:

  • one free hard waste collection of up to 2 cubic metres (2m long x 1m wide x 1m high), the equivalent of a standard trailer load, and
  • one free mattress collection of a mattress and/or ensemble base.

Bookings are essential and can be made all year round.  Please do not place items kerbside without having a booking.

Making a Booking

To arrange your hard waste or mattress collection, book online or contact East Waste on 8347 5111 or east@eastwaste.com. Hard waste and mattress collections must be booked separately.

East Waste will send you an email (or letter if you do not have email) confirming the collection date. Items must be placed on the verge no earlier than 24 hours before your collection date and no later than 6:00am on the collection day.

Acceptable Hard Waste Items

Acceptable items

  • Air conditioners (degassed by a licenced professional)
  • Bikes and toys
  • Blinds and window coverings
  • Car seats (cut straps on old or damaged seats)
  • Dismantled clothes lines
  • Furniture
  • Hot water services
  • Lawn mowers
  • Mattresses (must be booked separately)
  • Rainwater tanks
  • Refrigerators and freezers (doors removed, degassed by a licenced professional)
  • Sheets of iron and guttering
    (up to 2 metre lengths)
  • Small items of scrap metal
  • Timber off cuts (up to 2 metre lengths, all nails must be removed or bent over for safety purposes)
  • Large branches or prunings (max 30cm diameter, cut into to 2 metre lengths and tied in bundles).
  • White goods
  • Wooden pallets

Unacceptable Items

  • Ammunition, explosives or flares
  • Batteries
  • Bean Bags
  • Business or industrial waste
  • Bricks, rocks, dirt, pavers, PVC pipe, concrete and building materials
  • Car tyres and car parts
  • Carpet, floor coverings, underlay or artificial turf
  • Electronic waste (TV's, Computers, or anything with a battery or cord)
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Gas bottles
  • Glass items (e.g. sheet glass, mirrors and windows)
  • Items too heavy for two people to lift
  • Hazardous materials (e.g. asbestos, chemicals, liquids, motor oils and paints)
