Traffic and parking in school zones
Published 30th January 2026
To help keep our youngest residents safe, below is a refresher some of the road rules in school zones:
- No parking zones ('Kiss n drop' zones) are for the immediate pick up and drop off of passengers. Drivers can only stop for 2 minutes or less and must remain with the vehicle. If your child is not present, please move on to ensure the zone works effectively for all users.
- Drivers must not stop on a solid yellow line, in a no standing zone or a bus zone for any reason.
- 25 km/h school zone limits apply at all times when children are present.
- New 40 km/h time-based school speed limits are being rolled out on major roads near schools. These limits apply on school days from 8 am to 9:30 am and 2 pm to 4 pm where signs indicate. They are designed to improve safety during peak drop-off and pick-up times. Be sure to check signs for changes in your area.
By working together, following road and parking restrictions and role‑modelling safe driver and pedestrian behaviour, we can create safer school zones for our community.
