Innovative infrastructure solutions
Recent stormwater and road restoration trials are incorporating sustainable materials such as recycled plastic piping and plant-based road rejuvenation treatments. By adopting these approaches, we are reducing carbon emissions, extending the lifespan of existing assets, minimising disruption to the community, and supporting a circular economy.
Sustainable stormwater solutions
The Green Pipe is an Australian-made stormwater solution manufactured from 100% recycled plastic collected through yellow-lidded kerbside recycling bins.
Compared to traditional concrete alternatives, these pipes offer significant advantages. They are lightweight and durable, and require far less energy to produce and transport, resulting in lower emissions across their lifecycle.
Green Pipe has recently been installed as part of the Hallett Avenue drainage upgrade in Tranmere, where it is helping to address localised flooding. This project demonstrates how sustainable materials can deliver practical, long-term infrastructure solutions for the community.
Smarter road rejuvenation
Delta Mist is an innovative, plant-based asphalt rejuvenator, designed to extend the life of ageing road pavement without negative environmental effects.
Applied as a fine mist, the treatment penetrates the asphalt surface, restoring essential oils that are lost over time due to heat and UV exposure. This helps improve flexibility, reduce brittleness, and slow the development of cracks.
Delta Mist offers a range of practical benefits. Roads can typically reopen to traffic in under two hours, minimising disruption for road users. The clear-drying application preserves existing line markings and maintains reflectivity, ensuring visibility and safety are not compromised.
The treatment is currently being trialled in Second Street, Magill and Antonio Court, Newton, where its performance and effectiveness are being evaluated.
