Prime Home Improvements

Starting in 1995 by business partners and friends David and Mando, Prime Home Improvements transforms South Australian houses into dream homes. By utilising the expertise of industry natives and harnessing the work ethic inherent in family businesses, Prime Home Improvements, based in Newton, lives up to this mission one project at a time.

In the early days of operation, David and Mando were focused on winning and executing small jobs to perfection, primarily bathroom renovations. With more experience and a dedicated customer base, the business began to grow to facilitate more expansive projects.

‘Any methods of expansion or vehicles for change are approached with a slow and steady mindset,’ Noah, Supervisor and Site Manager at Prime Home Improvements and son of David, said. By having such concrete foundations in place, the business has embraced expansion and navigated change.

While change is prevalent in every business, Prime Home Improvements has had to navigate the sudden illness of its co-founder and integral team member, Mando. With Mando needing to step back from the business, Noah, formerly a tiler, took on the role of running the jobs.

From coordinating with in-house trades to conversing with clients, Noah’s fingerprints are all over the projects completed by Prime Home Improvements. Having formerly worked as a tradie for the business, Noah understands the processes and procedures by which the company operates. He also understands that every job comes with unique challenges and opportunities.

This understanding and insight are also passed on to all Prime Home Improvements employees. ‘We make a concerted effort to train our employees on elements of safety as well as the level of quality that we will and won’t accept,’ Noah explained. By clearly outlining and enforcing elements of quality control, greater communication is fostered. ‘If there is a problem on-site, the team will flag it quite quickly before it snowballs into something that we won’t be happy with,’ Noah added.

By championing an environment where staff are empowered to problem-solve and communicate, greater results can be enjoyed. On a company level, employees feel like they are part of the team working towards a solution, which helps to increase workplace morale. On a more widespread level, this dedication to quality ensures that Prime Home Improvements enjoys an excellent reputation around South Australia.

Sometimes, in the construction industry, finding good staff is almost as complex as completing projects. Whilst this is a problem facing the entire industry, Prime Home Improvements utilises its network of connections to find the right people. ‘We take our time when it comes to employing new people because we want quality workers who will help us keep our good name,’ Noah said. ‘Staying true to company values, in addition to a strong on-site presence, works hand in hand to ensure that everyone working on a job fits into the project seamlessly.’

With a team that expertly balances the notions of experience and enthusiasm, while each job may differ, the approach never changes. Whether re-designing from scratch or remodelling, customer service and quality remain at the fore. ‘As the site manager, I’m the point of contact on all jobs, so I make myself readily available to our team and clients,’ Noah said. This commitment to service is all-encompassing as, even if there is extra work involved, the team at Prime Home Improvements will always work to leave the job site with a happy client.

Having completed over 3,000 successful renovations and extensions, there is a real sense of craftsmanship and care infused into all projects. While the team takes great pride in providing lifestyle-improving services, this focus on quality extends to the materials and supplies used. ‘We have gone to great lengths to develop relationships with suppliers who we can trust to deliver high-quality and durable products,’ Noah explained.

By infusing quality into each and every aspect of their projects, the Prime Home Improvements team have, job by job, laid the groundwork to support their longevity and sustained success. With equal emphasis placed on gradual growth and upholding their good name, the team has never lost sight of the main goal: helping people realise the true potential of their homes.
‘The best thing about being in our family business is that we are all working towards the same goals,’ Noah said. A by-product of championing client satisfaction and high-quality work is that Prime Home Improvements also enjoys frequent repeat business. ‘A lot of our customers come back to us, so we might have started on their ensuite and ended up reinvigorating their main bathroom and kitchen, too. Getting to see their whole transformation firsthand really is rewarding,’ Noah added.

After almost three decades in business, Prime Home Improvements has managed to create a community of clients. Being based in the Campbelltown City Council area has further helped to foster this community spirit. ‘Being in the area means we are close to home but also close to the heart of the community as well,’ Noah said.

To advertise to that community even more, the Council recently afforded Prime Home Improvements a grant to help refresh its website. ‘The grant is going to help us get our name out there and provide people with a space to go to understand just what we are capable of,’ Noah explained.
