Maria Matteucci (nee Canala)

Maria Canala was born on 15th November 1940 in Ascoli Piceno in the Marche region, Italy. Her father, Mario arrived in Adelaide in 1949, worked on his uncle’s market garden at Virginia and in 1950 was joined by his eldest son. In 1951 the family was reunited when her mother, Grazia and three children, including Maria, arrived. After living at Virginia for a year they moved to Crowle Road Paradise. Mario worked for Mr Arnold Gray on his 10-acre property on the Torrens which produced mainly celery. The family lived there when it was sold to Timo Angelini and Maria’s father worked in partnership with him until about 1972.
