The Emery family forebears arrived in Adelaide in 1838 and first settled on the northern side of the River Torrens. The family bought land on Section 311.  Margaret’s father, Charles Ramsey Emery married Beryl Mary Dalton from Paradise. Margaret was born 27th July 1949. Her father and two uncles worked two Campbelltown properties, 6 acres on the corner of Lower North East Road and Ann Street and a 17-acre block, off Junction Road with river frontage. They grew many varieties of potatoes and some onions. The land was sub-divided from the late 1950s.

Paul was born 23rd July 1941 and Brian was born 13 April 1943. Their father, Edwards Robert (Bob) married Nellie Whelan in 1935 and lived at Hillview, a 16.5-acre property on the corner of Lower Athelstone Road and Schulze Road. The family grew a range of vegetables and celery became the main crop. At 15 years Paul began working with his brother Cyril. The family sold the land in1991, and the brothers worked with Dennis Lorenz at Virginia.
