Oral History Project - James Pierson Profile

The Pierson family were among early settlers in the area and bought Block 9 of Section 308. Jim was born in 1943 into market gardening family. Jim’s father worked five acres on the corner of Reed Avenue and Glynde Road and 3.5 acres on the corner of Lewis Road and Glynde Road. The family also bought a property of 14 acres on James Street, Campbelltown where Jim worked with his father. At Glynde they grew mainly cauliflowers, and at James Street, the crops were celery and potatoes and sweet corn. The Government acquired the land at James Street in the 1960s and the family continued market gardening at Virginia where Jim still works with his son.
