Dennis & Jillian Lorenz

Oral History Project - Dennis Lorenz Profile

The first members of the Lorenz family arrived from Germany in 1876. The family had 18 acres including 13 acres on the northern side of Gorge Road and five acres on the southern side, parts of Sections 116 and 815. Dennis Cleland Lorenz was born on 5th November 1943 into a market gardening family at Athelstone. They grew a variety of crops: mainly cauliflowers and cabbages in winter, potatoes and sweet corn in summer. They sold tomatoes to Rosella’s at Kent Town for sauce. Dennis’ father retired in 1973 and the land was subdivided. Dennis continued to work in the Athelstone area until 1993 when he worked with Paul and Cyril Emery at Virginia until 2003. Dennis and His wife continue to live on the original family property.
