emPOWERING Magill Project

Published 15th March 2024
Today we celebrated the emPOWERING Magill Project which will see a community battery installed at Tuku Wirra Reserve later this year.

The community-scale energy storage system will increase our local and state’s renewable energy and at the same time will enable the lowest residential electricity rate in South Australia to be made available to at least 300 social housing tenants in Magill and surrounds.

emPOWERING Magill is being delivered by the Government of South Australia, in partnership with Tesla, Energy Locals and the City of Campbelltown, to reduce electricity bills, and provide cleaner and cheaper power to improve the cost-of-living in Campbelltown

About the program, Mayor Jill Whittaker OAM said:

"Campbelltown City Council is committed to tackling climate change and leading our City towards a climate-resilient and sustainable future, and this includes supporting the Magill Community Battery to deliver renewables and the cheapest available residential electricity rate in SA to SA Housing households in our Council area.

I am pleased that Campbelltown has been selected as one of the first areas in SA to have a Community Battery installed - it will not only help at least 300 Campbelltown households but will also benefit others as it will assist to stabilise the grid in the area and may help prevent blackouts."

This project received grant funding from the Australian Government as part of the Community Batteries for Household Solar program.
