Social Media Guidelines

By using or accessing any of the Campbelltown City Council’s social media pages, you agree to comply with these Social Media Guidelines and the relevant social media channel's terms and conditions.

Social media is an important feedback mechanism for Campbelltown City Council (Council) and the Community, and we welcome comments and encourage participation in discussions regardless of whether the sentiment is positive or negative. Council will not remove legitimate concerns or complaints raised by the online Community but has an obligation to remove content that does not comply with these guidelines.

In addition, comments on Council posts are in the public domain and you are responsible (by law) for all content you post or share.

To ensure Council’s social media pages are a friendly and welcoming space for all visitors, we ask that you:

  • Be kind.
Be polite and respectful of others and their opinions. Offensive content and language will not be tolerated.
  • Keep it relevant.
Ensure that comments are related to the original thread topic and do not include irrelevant, persistent, or repetitive content. Do not promote anything that may constitute spam, commercial interests, solicitations, advertisements, endorsements, click bait or trolling.
  • Keep it accurate.
Only post information which is factually accurate and does not mislead or deceive others.
  • Play fair.
Bullying, harassment, threats, abuse, or victimisation will not be tolerated. For the protection of Council staff, comments naming or attacking staff members will be removed. If you would like to make a complaint about a staff member or a Council service, please use Council’s formal complaints process.
  • Keep it original and lawful.
Only share video, photos and other content that you own the rights to. If you don’t own it or have permission to share it, don’t post it.
Ensure you protect the personal privacy of yourself and others and refrain from making defamatory posts.
Comments on Council posts are in the public domain and you are responsible (by law) for all content you post or share.
  • Keep it apolitical.
Posting of electoral material or statements is not permitted.

Council Representatives including Council employees, contractors, agents, Elected Members, Independent Committee or Panel Members, and volunteers, whether on leave or otherwise including temporary agency Staff, must also comply with the Council’s Social Media Policy.

Monitoring and Moderation of Content

We welcome your comments, questions, and service requests. We will reply to all queries as quickly as possible, though sometimes there will be a delay in providing a full response if we are required to seek advice from another staff member. For urgent assistance, please contact us on 8366 9222.

Council’s social media is monitored and maintained during business hours, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm (excluding public holidays). Should any inappropriate interactions occur outside of these hours, we will endeavour to remove them at the first opportunity.

To assist with the moderation of content and mitigate against any potential violation of these guidelines by third parties, Council reserve the right to turn off commenting on any post temporarily or permanently including outside of business hours.

Council reserves the right to hide or delete any posts or comments that do not comply with these guidelines and/or the relevant social media channel’s terms and conditions or block a user in order to maintain a safe and respectful space for everyone.
