Lifestyle: Helping achieve better balance

To assist staff achieve a work/life balance, most full-time staff (apart from library staff) have access to a rostered day off. Field staff operate under a nine-day fortnight given their normal working hours of 7am to 4pm, Monday to Friday except Wednesday when they finish at 3.45pm. Full time office staff accrue a rostered day off every four weeks with their normal working hours being 8.45am to 5.15pm, Monday to Friday.

Council is very supportive of a range of Healthy Lifestyle voluntary programs to promote healthy staff at home and work:

  • Free voluntary Health Assessments including the following components - cholesterol and blood pressure tests, aerobic fitness and back care, body composition, vision, cardiac risk score and stress management profile and counselling.
  • Council's Healthy Lifestyle Program may include annual free flu vaccinations, subsidied on-the-job workplace shoulder and neck massages and skin cancer screenings.
  • Council's confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides a Care and Counselling Service offering assistance with work-related matters, managing change, workplace conflict, family and other relationship issues, drug and alcohol problems and any other area of concern.
  • Council has an active employee Social Club that offers members a number of social activities which new staff can join and enjoy with staff from a range of other Council departments.
