TRONNOLONE, Vito

In the year 1956 I, Vito Tronnolone, left Italy for Australia on board the Oceania. It was a terrible 35 day travel, the first week on board I thought I would die. Only the thought of a better life and jobs to be had kept me strong.

Arriving in Australia with no friends or family I had to survive. I lived in the Adelaide Hills in a tin shed with no water or electricity.

For 8 years I chopped wood, 10 hours a day for six pounds a week. The next seven years breaking stones in a quarry and later worked in a post office. Always sending money back to my missed family in Italy.

In 1970 I purchased my first home in the suburb of Maylands in Adelaide for 2,000 pounds. Later I moved to Campbelltown where I built my first home.

I have four children and five grand children. Now I am retired and still living in Campbelltown.
