PIANTADOSI, Francesco and Clara Elena

Francesco was born in Squillani Roccabascerana, Provincia Avellino on the 1 August 1926 and Clara Elena Pallotta his wife was born on the 16 November 1926 in the same place. They were married in Squillani Roccabascerana on the 2 February 1947. In 1951, He then left behind his wife Clara Elena and daughter Rosina aged 3 years in search for a better lifestyle for his family.

Three years later they joined him in South Australia on the 4 January 1954 after a long voyage of 31 days on board the 'Sydney'. Later additions to the family were son Giuseppe Tom in 1956 and Maria Luisa in 1960. All children are married and live in South Australia with 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

When he first arrived in Australia in 1951 he worked in a wood mill for 5 months for about 5 pounds a week and then night shift at Mitchell Wool Factory, Adam Street Hindmarsh until 1959 as well as market gardening during the day. After building his first home in Loader Street Glynde he continued to work at Durden Engineering, Provident Ave, Glynde as a spray painter/assembler until 1987 when he retired.

He built his second home in Kurrajong Avenue, Athelstone in 1980, where he still lives with his wife today.

During this time he kept his passion for music alive by being a drummer in a 60/40 band 'Granada' from 1960-1970 and played the trumpet and cymbals in the 'S.S.Montevergine band' and the 'Giuseppe Verdi band' for many years.

Now he spends his days helping his children and the family and is actively involved in the Catholic Church of St Francis of Assisi , Newton of which he was a founder and a committee member for it's construction. He is also a Minister of the Eucharist, a lecturer of the Catholic Faith, church Group Leader and a member of the church choir.
