HALLWOOD, George (Snr)

George Hallwood (born 2 September 1929) and his wife Netta (born 5 March 1930) migrated from Liverpool, England with their son George (born 15 June 1960) on 23 May 1971 aboard the Britanis. It was a dark, wet evening that ended the four week voyage from Southampton to Port Adelaide.

The Hallwoods settled in Athelstone.

George senior, a welder, quickly found work with the thriving whitegoods manufacturer Kelvinator. He worked for many great South Australian manufacturers including Simpson Pope and Clipsal's before retiring as maintenance supervisor at Gliderol in 1995.

Netta worked as a teacher with the Education Department and with Catholic Education, retiring as a school principal.

Their son George went to St Ignatius College, married Susan Amber from an old Athelstone family and has two girls, Amber and Erin. George is Managing Director of Effective Consulting and was a member of Campbelltown Council for 10 years until 2003 retiring as Deputy Mayor.

For the Hallwood's, Adelaide has the best people and environment on earth.

Compiled by George Jnr in May 2003.
