CATALANO, Corrado

Mr & Mrs Corrado Catalano Corrado Catalano passed away 9 March 1991. In February 1951 the late Corrado Catalano stepped ashore in Melbourne on the Sorrento Ship just 29 days out from Naples, Italy and flew to Adelaide to join his brother-in-law and 2 nephews. The late Corrado was born in Beltiglio, Benevento, Southern Italy on 7 April 1924.

He left behind his fiancee' Ada Catalano, who was born in San Leucio del Sannio, Benevento on 9 February 1924, having promised to return to Italy after 3 or 4 years to marry her. As things did not prove to be as easy as thought to earn money in Australia, the late Corrado seeked approval by Ada's father for her to join him which she did on 29 September 1952 on the Australia Ship, just 29 days out from Naples, Italy. The late Corrado met Ada in Melbourne and they travelled together to Adelaide by train. Within 18 days (18 October 1952) they were married at St Patrick's Cathedral, Grote Street, Adelaide. Together they planned to work and save to return to Italy within 3 or 4 years to join their respective families that they left behind. Once again, this did not eventuate, and they decided to make their life here in Adelaide.

Together they worked hard, to eventually own their home that the Late Corrado built at 45 Lewis Road, Glynde. They had 2 children Mario and Lonia. They now have a daughter-in-law, Lee and 3 grandchildren, Ben, Chris & Celeste.

They lived a religious life and were proud to be active parishioners of St Francis of Assisi, Newton being the first Italian parish in Adelaide.

The above was put together by daughter Lonia and Ada Catalano on 14 October 2003.
