Campania Sports & Social Club

The Campania Sports and Social Club Sons of Italy, Community Centre Inc

John had been on a trip to the USA in 1974 and was a guest at a Club, the members were mainly third generation Americans, but they still felt the need to maintain the culture of their grandparents in America. John was impressed and thought that this would be a great idea, to build a club back home in Adelaide for these very same reasons, to keep the culture of our grandparents and for the future of our children. On his return home to Adelaide John brought his ideas to Pompeo Ranaldo, Giovanni Dametto, Sabatino Ranaldo, Raffaele Barone, Liberantonio Limongelli, Erminio Ranaldo, Ezio Spina, Clemente Maione, Mario Mignone, Michele Luongo, Feliciano Zerillo, Michele Carofano, Antonio Rotolo and Nicola Minicozzi LL B who met to discuss the possibility of such a club in South Australia. Consequently a club was formed and a constitution drawn up and registered in 1975.

The Campania Club has always worked towards bringing the people from their region together and fostering awareness of their culture and tradition in their children. They also encourage other nationalities to join them so that the diverse cultures can learn a little more of each other.

The Campania Club has always been involved in Fundraising and in community activities such as Campania earthquake appeal, SA Bushfire Appeal, Italian Festival, Cancer Foundation and assistance to various parishes and schools.

In the year 2000 the Club had it's name changed to include the words 'Community Centre'.

In the year 2001 the Campania Club under went some changes, the members room was renovated to accommodate more members and friends and give them better facilities. In May of 2001 the Campania Club was granted a gaming licence, the first Italian club and, still to this day, the only Italian club to be granted such a licence and first to be trading five days a week. This was a great achievement for the then committee and President Raffaele Barone.

The Campania Bocce dome has also been a great success, with the players having established themselves as very competitive. The players have also competed in state championships, also our junior's have competed in state and international championships like in Japan in 2001.

The Campania Sports and Social Club Community Centre is still growing and providing a true source of history and culture for our future, our children.
