Lest We Forget Poppy Project
Council received over 5,500 poppies in 2015 and 2018, some of which were sent to the National exhibition '5000 poppies project'. Council has retained a number of poppies which are used for Anzac Day and Remembrance Day commemorations (as pictured right).
In 2015, to commemorate the Gallipoli campaign in WW1, Campbelltown Council received 2,500 knitted, crocheted and crafted poppies. In 2018, a call went out to Australian knitters for 60,000 poppies, each one representing an Australian life lost in WW1. Council sent 3,000 poppies to the national project and the rest are now part of Council's collection.
A special thank you to community member Pam Schartner who led the project by creating, inspiring, motivating, supporting, collecting and collating all 5,500 poppies received.
