School Aged Program

Our caring and qualified teachers will help guide students through our structured levels at their own pace. Classes incorporate water familiarisation, water safety skills and stroke development.

The ARC Swim School program is strongly technique based, with distances being kept short until children have mastered the essential skills and techniques.

LEVEL 1: OCTOPUSARC Learn to Swim Program - Octopus

Maximum number of students: 4
Duration: 30 minutes
Ability: Suitable for non-swimmers who are 5 years old and above.

AIMS:

  • Slide in entry
  • Face wet and blowing bubbles
  • Submerge underwater and identify object
  • Front and back floats with assistance
  • Push and glide off wall on front
  • Jump into deep water and swim back to wall with assistance

LEVEL 2: FROGARC Learn to Swim Program - Frog

Maximum number of students: 5
Duration: 30 minutes
Eligibility: Students graduated from Octopus level or students who have graduated from Junior Frog class (Preschool level 2).

AIMS:

  • 5m torpedo
  • 5m basic freestyle arms (with board and no breathing)
  • Push and glide off wall on back
  • 5m confident back kick with straight legs (no board)
  • Basic backstroke arms with board
  • Front and back floats without assistance
  • Introduction to sculling arm action
  • Submerge and pick up object
  • Jump into deep water and swim back to wall unaided
  • Be pulled to safety by holding a rescue aid

LEVEL 3: SQUIDARC Learn to Swim Program - Squid

Maximum number of students: 5
Duration: 30 minutes
Eligibility: Students graduated from Frog level.

AIMS:

  • 5m freestyle breathing technique with board
  • 5m backstroke arms without board
  • Introduction to survival backstroke
  • Scull head first on back without assistance
  • Demonstrate treading water leg action in deep water with assistance/flotation aid
  • Demonstrate lock hands/lock head/steer up position
  • Pin drop into deep water
  • Be rescued using a flotation aid

LEVEL 4: PENGUINARC Learn to Swim Program - Penguin

Maximum number of students: 5
Duration: 30 minutes

AIMS:

  • 10m freestyle breathing without board
  • 10m backstroke with windmill arms
  • 5m survival backstroke
  • Tread water for 20 seconds
  • Float on front and back in deep water without assistance
  • Perform a sitting dive
  • Perform a reach rescue to partner

LEVEL 5: STINGRAYARC Learn to Swim Program - Stingray

Maximum number of students: 6
Duration: 30 minutes

AIMS:

  • 15m Freestyle – introduction to bilateral breathing
  • 15m Backstroke
  • 15m Survival backstroke
  • Introduction to breaststroke kick
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Duck dive and pick up object from chest depth water
  • Perform a kneeling dive
  • Perform a throw rescue to partner

LEVEL 6: SWORDFISHARC Learn to Swim Program - Swordfish

Maximum number of students: 6
Duration: 30 minutes

AIMS:

  • 25m Freestyle with bilateral breathing
  • 25m Backstroke
  • 25m survival backstroke
  • 15m effective breaststroke kick
  • Perform a crouch dive
  • Perform a stride entry
  • Introduction to dolphin kick

LEVEL 7: DOLPHINARC Learn to Swim Program - Dolphin

Maximum number of students: 6
Duration: 45 minutes

AIMS:

  • 50m freestyle with bilateral breathing
  • 50m backstroke
  • 50m survival backstroke
  • 25m breaststroke with correct timing
  • Forwards somersault
  • 10m effective dolphin kick
  • 10m basic sidestroke kick
  • Fit a PFD, perform a compact jump, swim 50m survival strokes, float/scull/tread water for 2min
  • Perform a throw rescue using a weighted rope
  • Tread water using correct eggbeater technique
  • Shallow dive

LEVEL 8: SHARKARC Learn to Swim Program - Shark

Maximum number of students: 6
Duration: 45 minutes

AIMS:

  • 100m Freestyle (bilateral breathing)
  • 100m Backstroke,
  • 100m breaststroke
  • 100m survival backstroke
  • 15m effective butterfly
  • 25m effective sidestroke
  • Swim 200m continuously using survival strokes
  • Perform a throw rescue using an unweighted rope
  • Perform a racing dive
