YAC Decisions and Recommendations

In response to youth needs, the YAC makes decisions and develops recommendations about issues affecting local young people. YAC then submits these decisions directly to Council as a recommendation. Council then decides on whether the recommendation should be adopted or rejected. If adopted, appropriate Council staff are then responsible to action and implement the recommendation.

Reports are written by the Youth Development Officer.  Reports are informed by a variety of sources including Cafe Meetings and YAC planning meetings where young people, only YAC members in the latter of the two, provide specific information.

The YAC is encouraged and authorised to fully investigate issues/projects before providing a recommendation to Council.

The investigation process may address matters such as:

  • background to the initiative/issue
  • relevance to Council's policies
  • resource implications for establishment and ongoing operation and maintenance
  • both the positives and negatives
  • details of the consultation process (if any)
  • other options available

This process may be easier explained by the diagram below.
